How incredible it is. We go from a blinding white frigid landscape to the desolate brown of early spring. Then after a few warm and sunny days life begins to emerge. Not shy, not slowly from it’s earthly slumber, but with a vengeance. As if the colours of the North had been held captive and against their will. First we welcome the palette of greens, then come the vibrant, look at me yellows, purples and reds, each with it’s signature scent. A veritable parade of perfume and hues. 2020 and Covid-19 have been quite the shock to the system. So, in times of sorrow, despair and solitude remember Spring. Get out there. Remember to social distance but seek the season’s pleasures. The scents, the sounds and the colours, your healing oasis awaits.

Hiking through the country lost in thought and hunting for something beautiful to photograph. I crossed a small bridge and followed a winding path up a hill. The vegetation was dense and the entire forest dark from the thick canopy overhead. I then saw a break in the shadows. I pushed on and a clearing appeared. It was a homestead in the most unexpected location. I spotted this quaint little barn with a red door and rusted tin roof, this is the beautiful shot I had been searching for. I did not trespass as I had the shot I needed. I continued on to find a place to set camp. An incredible day with this image and the memory of a stunning adventure in the country.
