Kauai's north shore is lush and green, with many delightful scenes. On those mornings when the clouds are not too thick, the Hanalei Pier and Hanalei Bay are wonderful locations for enjoying the early morning light. This image was captured just as the sun was starting to shine. It was a long exposure, so the waves and clouds are smoothed to provide a calm feeling.

The view of Kauai's Kalalau Valley from the Kalalau Lookout, in Koke`e State Park, is best described as beautiful and illusive. The view is often of a sea of clouds obscuring its beauty; but when it does appear, it captures your eye and seemingly will not let go. When it is fully visible, it’s still a bit illusive as the plants mask parts of the valley. Shortly after I took this photo, clouds filled the valley. So if you want to see this magnificent valley, go early in the day and do not be disappointed if it eludes you ... for that is its nature.
