A college with mediocre graduation and retention rates overall may have a recognized auto technology program with highly engaged students and excellent graduation and job placement rates. Prospective students should evaluate specific programs in addition to researching the college as a whole.
Finding the right community college is as important as finding the right four-year university or graduate school. Prospective students should take time to visit campuses, read about success rates, discuss options with current students and academic advisors, and look beyond the closest campus. Researching and visiting community colleges allows prospective students to find the school best suited to their needs.
Look for Engaged Students
It is easier to achieve and work hard if fellow students are doing the same. When visiting different schools, prospective students should evaluate how current students behave. Are students taking notes and participating in class rather than playing games on their phones? Do students participate in extracurricular activities? Does the campus seem alive with students meeting between classes and studying?
