Super Bowl 2014 Quarterback Showdown: Russell Wilson vs. Peyton Manning [INFOGRAPHIC]

Sunday, February 2nd, 2014 marks the big event when NFC and AFC champions, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, duke it out at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the Super Bowl. This year, the NFL showdown features an unique combination of rookie versus veteran, as this is only the Seahawks’ second appearance and the Broncos’ seventh (albeit, it’s been 17 years since they last played in the Super Bowl).

Furthermore, the two leaders of the teams also have some significant differences with experience. Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks is just in his second season of professional football, while Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos is a seasoned vet, in his 16th season. In addition, Peyton has played in two Super Bowls and won one of them.

However, when comparing the two quarterbacks and their regular season statistics, it is easy to see how they are both extraordinary athletes. In the 2013 season, Peyton Manning dominates over Russell Wilson in terms of attempts, completions and yards per game. The two quarterbacks have comparable statistics in games won, both with 13 wins, and yards per attempt, with 8.31 for Peyton and 8.25 for Wilson. However, Russell Wilson takes the win in rush yards, with 539 versus Peyton’s -31 yards (yes that’s negative yardage). In general, Peyton Manning is ranked #1 in the NFL for pass touchdowns, with 55, and #1 in the NFL for pass yards, with 5,477. Russell Wilson came in high on the rankings as well, as #4 in the NFL for yards per attempt and #7 in the NFL for overall quarterback rating.

While Peyton Manning seems to dominate most of the quarterback stats, Russell Wilson’s talent is not be to overlooked. He is only one of six quarterbacks to start a Super Bowl in his first or second seasons, and is the only quarterback to enter the Super Bowl with the number of wins he has under his belt. Both Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson are incredible and sure to make this year’s Super Bowl one exciting game!
